Hugo Chetcuti’s 5 Commandments of Clubbing

(Unlike Moses, God did not grant us with two stone tablets, so we’re just making do with 5. Take it up with your local priest).

It’s Friday night and finally, the weekend is beckoning. You’re buzzing with energy and in the mood for some great music and vibes – so where are you headed? To the club, of course! Hugo Chetcuti knows just how popular clubbing and dance music is in Malta – he’s been on the scene since the 80’s when he purchased Footloose. Consequently, he’s seen it all and heard it all. Here are some 5 golden rules to remember before you head out for a night of partying.

1. Thou Shalt Not Be A Grabby Gary

Men – we’re talking to you (obviously). Nothing is more off-putting and unsexier than a random hand appearing out of nowhere and copping a feel. You’re more likely to be dialling the emergency department at Mater Dei rather than the number of the attractive woman you’ve had your eye on all night.

2. Thou Shalt Control Your Alcohol Intake

We all like to imbibe on a night out to let off steam and celebrate the end of the week. That doesn’t mean that you get to treat the dancefloor as your own personal toilet or vomit bag. Not to mention that you’ll probably end up ruining the evening for the rest of your friends – nobody likes babysitting a sloppy drunk.

3. Thou Shalt Pick Your Fights Carefully

Unless you’re personally involved, if you see two people circling each other like rabid hyenas over a fresh carcass – stay well away. Security and bouncers will take care of it. Interfering is yet another well-worn shortcut to the hospital.

4. Thou Shalt Not Stand Around Like a Dummy On The Dancefloor

Dancefloors are for dancing, not posing or fiddling around with your Instagram account. If you’re not there to dance, make space for those who want to. It’s a win-win all round; those who have no idea what they’re doing get to make a fool of themselves while you get to hang at the bar and “lol”.

5. Thou Shalt Not Partake In Spontaneous Kareoke

There’s a time and place for everything, so unless you’re got pipes that would rival those of Adele or Celine Dion, resist the urge to sing along – especially if you don’t know or remember the lyrics. And clapping? It’s not kindergarden. Just don’t.

If you think you’ve got the hang of club etiquette, come over and dance the night away at Hugo’s Terrace, owned by Hugo Chetcuti. One of the most stylish joints located in the heart of Paceville, it also offers VIP seating and two fully stocked bars, with experienced staff at your service.
