With the World Cup soon on its way, many football fans around the globe will be gathering around their screens at home or over at the pub to cheer on their countries as they battle for the most coveted prize in football. Spain: Santiago de Compostela

The capital city of the Galicia region, Santiago de Compostela attracts thousands of pilgrims and tourists every year. From historical sites to religious traditions, it has much to offer – most notably, the main square, Praza do Obradoiro.

Iran: The Tomb of Hafez

Lovers of poetry and history shouldn’t miss out on this unique landmark on the northern edge of Shiraz. Built as a memorial to the 14th century Iranian poet, Hafez, it was completed back in 1935, and there are now pools, trees, and even a tea house to create a pleasant environment for tourists and guests.

Iran: Persepolis

This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the oldest and most magical places on Earth, dating back to prehistoric times circa 550–330 BC. It includes a partly artificial terrace measuring 125,000 square metres, with the natural components cut out of a mountain. Nowadays, tourists can buy special 3D glasses through which they can see a reconstructed view of how the buildings and palaces might have looked some 5,000 years ago.
