Why we love St. Patrick’s Day

Everyone has a little Irish in them  – at least, that’s what we tell ourselves whenever a certain week in March rolls around. You don’t have to hail from the Old Country to enjoy this raucous festival as its popularity continues to grow all over the Maltese islands. In fact, you’re sure to find people celebrating at any bar or club owned by Hugo Chetcuti. Here are 5 things to love about this green holiday.

Make mine a Guinness

If you don’t have a pint in your hand on the 17th March then you’re not doing it right. Because St. Paddy’s day traditionally falls during Lent, this is the one day of the month when religious restrictions are lifted so that people can let their hair down and enjoy their favourite beer.

Crazy costumes

Green hats, green glasses, flags, scarves, berets, necklaces… there’s no limit to how outrageous an outfit can be for this carnivalesque occasion. Green is the colour that is associated with Irish Catholics, and shamrocks were used by St. Patrick to teach people about the Holy Trinity of God. The orange in the flag is the emblem for the Protestant population while the white stripe in between stands for the peace between both religious branches.

Irish pride

There are so many things to love about Ireland; the friendliness of the people, their renowned sense of humour, the mythology and folklore, their music, Graham Norton…

It’s the friendliest day of the year

The Irish are noted for their warmth and camaraderie towards others, and this has not gone unnoticed by the local populace. The festivities usually begin at around 12.30 in the afternoon in the St. Julian’s area, where a number of establishments owned by Hugo Chetcuti can be found. By the evening, the general feeling of good will and laughter has spread to such an extent that even strangers are laughing and hugging each other on the streets.

Dance the day – and night – away

What’s a party without good music? There’s sure to be loads of karaoke marathons and live perfomances around, with top DJs, bands and singers readying the mic to give their all and entertain everyone.

Come and celebrate St. Patrick’s day 2018 with all of us at Hugo’s Terrace!

Due to popular demand, there’ll be a live performance by Muzzle; a U2 tribute band that received a roaring amount of praise last year.
