5 Iconic Drinks in TV & Film

Can you imagine James Bond walking into a bar and ordering a Pina Colada, or Carrie Bradshaw and the girls chugging back pints of beer rather than New York’s fanciest cocktails? Hugo Chetcuti and his team certainly can’t – the images alone feel sacrilegious. Have a glance at our list of what we think are the most noteworthy beverages of all time in Hollywood and on the small screen.

1. Don Draper & The Old-Fashioned

Ever since the show premiered in 2007, “Maddicts” have been ordering this cocktail at such a rate that it’s caused somewhat of a comeback for this smooth blend of bourbon whisky and bitter. Just in case you’re planning on binging this show for the first time, keep in mind that it’s somewhat of a tradition to celebrate each premiere with this classic tipple. Hugo Chetcuti’s experienced staff especially recommends the Manhattan, another Draper favourite.

 2. James Bond & The Martini

Contrary to what most people think, the famous catchphrase “Shaken, not stirred” was first uttered by Bond’s nemesis Dr. No, and not by the spy himself. It wouldn’t be until Goldfinger premiered in 1964 that James Bond himself would vocally order the Martini cocktail, which would later on be called the Vesper after the original Bond girl.

3. Carrie Bradshaw & The Cosmopolitan

In between shopping with the girls and meeting hot dates, getting together for drinks and cocktails was one of the Bradshaw gang’s favourite things to do whilst exchanging the latest gossip. Guys came (pun intended) and went, but Cosmos were forever.

 4. Marilyn Monroe & The Manhattan

The magnetic screen presence of the platinum blonde is almost outshone by the film’s spotlight on this famous drink. We agree with Dolores – when life gives you vermouth and bourbon, make Manhattans.

 5. Phil Connors & Sweet Vermouth

One of the best comedies ever made, Groundhog Day follows Bill Murray’s character as he’s trapped in a time loop, forced to relive the same day over and over again. Connors had to order the same drink ad infinitum – sweet vermouth on the rocks with a twist – however, feel free to experiment and shake up your order in any way you wish.

Make your way over to Hugo’s Terrace, one of Hugo Chetcuti’s most popular establishments in St. Julian’s. Sip on the taste of the Big Apple when ordering a Cosmopolitan or live out your espionage fantasies from our vast and exquisite Martini selection. Double-oh yes please!
